Miwako Hayashi Bitmead obtained her BA in History of Art and MA in History of Art and Archaeology from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.
During her time at the Sainsbury Institute, she carried out a collaborative project ‘Shaping the Fundamentals of Research on Japanese Art (Tobunken-Sainsbury Institute Research Collections Database)’, with the Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties (Tobunken) in Japan.
