Research is at the heart of the Institute’s mission to promote knowledge and understanding of Japanese arts and cultures. The Institute promotes world-class research through active collaboration with both national and international partners, and brings together scholars from around the world to explore key areas of research on Japanese arts and cultures.
Centre for Archaeology and Heritage, residing within the Institute’s structure, was established in 2011 to specifically focus on the study of Japanese archaeological and cultural heritage.
The Institute’s four key areas of research are outlined below.
