Call for Papers – Global Easts: Japanese Cultural Entanglements

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv University in collaboration with the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures and Japan Art History Forum under the generous support from Toshiba International Foundation, are pleased to announce a call for papers for the upcoming conference Global Easts: Japanese Cultural Entanglements held 14-16 November 2023 in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

You can view and download the programme below.

The conference will look into the dynamics of cultural flows, the interconnectedness and interactions among different regions of the Global Easts, namely, East Europe, East Mediterranean, and East Asia. We are interested in the cross-regional cultural and artistic exchange and networks that have emerged within the Global Easts, with Japan as a central point of reference.

Please send a title, together with an abstract (up to 300 words) and 4-5 keywords and a short CV (max. 200 word) by August 31st to Dr. Daria Melnikova and Dr. Ayelet Zohar at globaleasts@gmail.com

We will allocate as much funding as possible towards travel and accommodation costs. Selected essays will be published in a volume or a special issue that will offer a critical and updated understanding of the study and display of Japanese arts and cultures in the context of the Global Easts.

We look forward to receiving your applications.

Sincerely,

The Conference Organizing Committee
