We are pleased to announce that we have chosen from a large number of applications six fellows for the Ishibashi Foundation Network Leader Fellowships in Japanese Arts 2025-2026 following a rigorous selection process.
The names of the candidates, their institutions, and the projects they are pursuing as part of the programme are as follows:
- Alica Bujačková (PhD candidate, Osaka University) : The transmission of twill damasks across Eastern Eurasia: Techniques, Patterns, and Applications.
- Emily Clarkson (PhD candidate, University of Edinburgh ) : Organising and digitising of part of Takako Saitō’s personal archive to create a digital living archive.
- Olga Isaeva (PhD candidate, University of Bonn) : Investigating the mutual influences between Japanese and migrant artists through the unstudied archive of Czech artist Václav Fiala.
- Luis A Lopez Matus (PhD candidate, University of Mexico) : Exploring the impact of migrant artists through Tadashi Uei and the teaching of Japanese conceptualism in the 1990s.
- Edisabel Marrero Tejeda (PhD candidate, University of Mexico) : Exploring how Japan’s curatorial practices and art debates since the 1990s have shaped regional imaginaries of Asia.
- Joanes Rocha (PhD candidate, University of Tokyo) : Reassessing the architectural spaces of lost Jesuit churches constructed in Japan through their representations in the Namban Byōbu.
