Andrew Hutcheson

Research Fellow, Centre for Archaeology & Heritage

Andrew Hutcheson BSc, Phd (Univ East Anglia 2010) is an archaeologist specialising in state formation and the role of institutions in the growth of complexity. He also holds a particular interest in cultural heritage and its relationship with natural heritage. Andrew is President of the Norfolk and Norwich Archaeological Society and a board member of the East Anglian Archaeology Monograph Series. He was Environment Manager at Norfolk County Council between 2013 and 2019. Throughout much of his career he has managed diverse teams and designed multi-disciplinary projects, recently including, Norfolk’s 25 Year Environment Plan, Greenways – Recycling Norfolk’s Disused Railways, Coastal Treasures, Norfolk’s Access Improvement Plan, Marriott’s Way Heritage Trail, and Pushing Ahead. Andrew is working on several research projects for the Centre for Archaeology & Heritage including: Nara to Norwich: arrivals of belief at the extremities of the Silk Roads 500-1000Divergent Heritages: UNESCO and the cultural heritage of landscapes in the UK compared with Japan, Global Perspectives on British Archaeology II. He is also developing a project comparing the Yayoi Period in Japan with Iron Age Britain.
