The Symposium ‘Open Science, Evolving Societies: New Horizons for EU-Japan Research ‘ which will take place on 22 October 2019 at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) is jointly organized with the VUB and it celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Kobe University Brussels European Centre Symposium, and the continued active presence of Kobe University in Brussels.

On this occasion, leading researchers from EU and Japanese organisations including the Sainsbury Institute’s Executive Director Simon Kaner, will present the latest cooperation projects between Japan and the EU, in the fields of Economics, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities, with additional input from representatives of European institutions and Japanese government. Key issues discussed will include the recently agreed EU-Japan EPA and SPA and their impacts on EU-Japan relations and the global environment; technologies and systems for food quality and safety; and new challenges and opportunities for cultural heritage research in the EU and Japan.
