Heritage Open Days is England’s largest and most popular voluntary cultural event, celebrating many of our lesser-known architectural and cultural treasures by offering free access to interesting properties. Many of them are not normally open to the public. For the last six years Norwich has broken records with its programme. Organised by Norwich HEART the building openings and special events have consistently been the largest number in England outside London. The Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures is pleased to be part of Heritage Open Days for the first time this year. Our headquarters, at 64 The Close, originally formed part of the outer cloister of the monastic complex around Norwich Cathedral, including the infirmerer’s camera. Two tours will offer a glimpse of the history of the fascinating building.
