About the exhibition
This exhibition reflects on the artist Sue Maufe’s journey from making 5000 Dogu figurines for the unearthed exhibition held at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in 2010 to working in Japan, and her growing interest of ancient ceramics, geology and archaeology. Sue enjoys working on a small scale with clay and flint, using these materials to create mainly figurines and small abstract objects which have a certain ambiguity about them. Many objects from the past have the same ambiguity we can only wonder and speculate what their meaning is.
