Sustainable Urushi Restoration: In Conversation with ‘Living National Treasure’ Murose Kazumi

Professor Nicole Coolidge Rousmaniere will be joining urushi  lacquer master craftsman and ‘Living National Treasure’ (Bearer of Important Intangible Cultural Property) Murose Kazumi for a special talk, in collaboration with Japan House London and Royal Collection Trust.

Murose Kazumi will firstly give a presentation on urushi’s long history that dates back 9000 years, and his work on conserving and restoring important urushi artefacts with a focus on urushi‘s environmentally-friendly qualities. Thereafter, he will be joined by Professor Rousmaniere for a conversation, an audience Q&A session and a drinks reception.
