Reconnections Along the Silk Roads: Restoring and Reconstructing Textiles from Afar
The Sainsbury Institute are delighted to co-organise the 7th annual symposium for the International Association for the Study of Silk Road Textiles (IASSRT), organised in partnership with the China National Silk Museum.
Formed of a two day conference followed by a two day tour of related textile sites across Norfolk and Suffolk, this year’s symposium will address themes of reconstruction and restoration relating to the textiles of the Silk Roads.
Sunday 15th October
09:00 – 17:00 – Conference sessions at Norwich Castle Museum
17:00-19:00 – Textile viewing and reception at the South Asia Collection
19:15 onwards – Welcome dinner at the Maids Head Hotel
Monday 16th October
09:00-16:45 – Conference sessions at Norwich Cathedral, including textile viewing session at Norwich Cathedral Library
Tuesday 17th October
All day – Post-symposium tour day 1, including visits to Humphries Weaving and Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury, and a walking tour of Norwich
Wednesday 18th October
All day – Post-symposium tour day 2, including visits to the National Trust Conservation Studio, Blickling Hall, and Holkham Hall in North Norfolk
Thursday 19th October
Morning – Visits to the scientific laboratories of the British Museum
