Dear Friends,

We had lots to celebrate this season as we recently marked the 200th Third Thursday Lecture with a talk by His Excellency Koji Tsuruoka, Ambassador of Japan to the UK, and launched a new research strand.
We also reflect with gratitude on the life and generosity of one of our strongest supporters, Sir Hugh Cortazzi. Warm wishes go out to the hardworking students who took part in our intensive summer school programmes.
Looking ahead, our Japanese art exhibition updates may tempt you to plan an autumn mini-break to Europe.
We hope you enjoy this quarter’s e-magazine.
